Great problem... We like Sunstudio, probably better OS-adapted, even if
the execution doesn't seam faster in the all cases, but... it can be a
little pain to perform (except for Stefan
:-) ) the compilation of several softs.

For example, to compile Rosegarden with cc, assuming that Rosegarden
(Sequencer) use kdelibs, i need Stefan packages : but after that,
problem to compile Rosegarden itself ! And with gcc (gcc also for
kdelibs, of course), no any difficulty to compile this soft.

That is really a general question : proprietary compiler (even free) or
not ? I prefer the first, but...

In the fact, Sunstudio isn't in cause, and the actual release (2006)
seems

a little easyer to use. The real problem is that for most programmers,
the "gcc capability" is sufficient. The solution, for us, is that Sun
performs a better recognization of Solaris as workstation-OS, and not
only as server-OS.

And that is possible : Solaris is, with BSD, the only one true-Unix
system actually for workstations actually in general use.
