KDE missing fonts

Can anyone help me as to fixing this behavour?

As you can see all the fonts are missing.

This is on solaris 10 with the packages from blastwave.org. it did work
but then something else i installed must have broken it(i suspect VLC). I
really dont want to do a reinstall so if anyone could help me it would be
great.

BTW i've tried selecting a number of different locales on the DTlogin
screen but no difference.
