kde 3.5.7 Sparc: mouse cursor lost

Hi all,

I've been using KDE 3.5.7 on a U45 for some time now. Today, I came back 
from a meeting, unlocked the session and ... got no mouse cursor. 
everything else seemed to be working, I could switch between windows and 
workspaces, etc.

What can I the next time this happens to get back my mouse cursor or to 
help analyse this?
