Have you tried in under the JDS, seeing that the latter is 'based' on Gnome (if I have my facts correct). I suggest you to use TexMaker (http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/), best > choice in a SunRay environment. Yes, I've used TexMaker before, however, I prefer Kile (functions such as forward search with KDVI is fantastic).
