KMail SMTP Not So Kool

My
e-mail account originated back in the days when Netscape was at the
top of the browser business and offered an integrated mail component.
(These days I continue the Netscape tradition by using the SEAMONKEY
suite on my machines!) Recently I installed Mandriva One 2009
KDE 4 on my HP laptop and intended, as much as possible, to fully
utilize KDE apps.

Sadly, my plan is not working out.
Mandriva is superb; but the "Kool Desktop Environment" is
producing some disappointments. The first app to be jettison
was Konqueror which, while a decent file browser is a clunky web
browser. I wanted to keep KMail, which was describe in the
literature, as "a straight forward mail client that comes with
all the features you would expect." It's gone now, too,
because I was unable, following many [Repeat: MANY!] attempts, to
configure it's Small Mail Transfer Protocols in such a manner to be
able to get a message off my machine. The IMAP side worked just
fine. [I downloaded / installed / configured KMail onto
my wife's Ubuntu 8.04 Lenovo laptop with exactly the same dismal
results!]. She uses EVOLUTION and/or THUNDERBIRD and I will stay with
SEAMONKEY's integrated feature. So. . . .I am not soliciting a
response to this message, just getting a bit of frustration off my
chest.

Reviewing posts made by kdepim-users reveals
that several have experienced a similar problem. Bottom Line:
SMTP should be as easily established using KMail as with other
on-disk mail programs. Pax, ~rc
