Its working for me. Here are the steps which I did:
1. Right click on the folder and select 'Find Messages'. You can
include sub-folders also.
2. Search criteria is 'Message status is Important'. This you can
select from the drop down list box.
3. Then press search.
4. Once search is complete. Change the search folder name.
5. Click Open.
Thats it.
But  it can make u r kmail at times very slow.
