We decided to disable parts of the migration due to difficulties reported 
during the test phase.

Akonadi is started and gets access to the same data the applications are 
using, but applications like KAddressBook or KOrganizer still use the 
traditional form of access.

Applications like KPilot have already been ported and are using Akonadi.

Since we changed the scope of automatic migration between RC1 and the 4.2 
release, people with beta or RC setup will also have the client plugins 
enabled. They can switch back to the traditional plugins since they have only 
been deactivated, not removed.
