If you type 'today' in the quick search field and if you use the fancy
date, i.e. the date of messages received today is shown as "Today
hh:mm:ss", then only messages received today and messages where "today"
appears in some other field (e.g. the Subject field) are shown.

Very often I enter 'day ' into the quick search field to get all
messages received in the past 7 days.
