Importng mail/folders/filters

I chmod 666 everything in user directory "a" to 666 but I still can't import 
all that mail to user directory "b". I don't have the right permissions. Any 
suggestions?

The old mail was created under an earlier version of Kmail (1.9.7) and the new 
directory, user etc. was created using Kmail 1.9.10. 

Slackware linux 12.2.
