Before you try that, try this.

With akregator closed down (kontact closed, if you access it that way),go to 
~/.kde/share/config and rename akregatorrc to akregatorrc.old.  Restart 
akregator and a new rc should be written.  You feeds are not stored there, so 
they should not be affected.
