I'm not sure whether that comes into play when performing keyword searches. I manually archive my sent/receive folders and in 2008's `receive' folder, I currently have 35,380 messages. Typing in `an' resulted in results coming back within a second or so. My machine is a _honker_ though: Quad I7, 3.07GHz with 6GB of RAM.
