kmail + kolab folder in imap?

Hi,

I've got a few thunderbird/icedove installations across a few computers and I synchronize contacts between them with synckolab to an IMAP folder.  I'd like to move to using KMail (on the computers where I have access to installing it), but I want to keep my address book in sync.

From searching the web, I can see that KMail works well is Kolab data, but does it require a Kolab server?  Or is there another way I can synchronize contacts between thunderbird and KMail?
