Burning .iso image to 8GB flash drive

I'm trying to burn an iso image to a Patriot 8GB drive (bootable on my laptop) 
which has a defective DVD-RAM drive.  I've tried both k3b and brassaro but 
have not been able to get either program to recognize the flash drive.

The flash drive is recognized by several file managers as /Media/PATRIOT. I 
rember reading an article some years ago on burning to a flash drive but no 
longer have that article
