Yes, I checked by using ps aux | grep kontact, kmail, and kio_pop3.  I also checked with top and didn't see any processes that seemed to connect.  However if that doesn't sound like the right way, it's possible I goofed.

What's the best way to make sure kmail (or kontact) is totally dead before editing files?
