Imap gets "stuck"

Sometimes if I leave KMail running for awhile, it will get "stuck" and will 
refuse to update or show the message list for an Imap server. The only way 
to make it work is to kill all the kio processes related to kmail after 
shutting down KMail.  Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?
