Besides locking, there's the problem of the akonadi socket defaulting to
~/.local/share/akonadi/akonadiserver.socket

I'm hoping to be able to contribute toward making that network-fs-friendly 
as well, likely using similar strategies that kde uses for 
~/.kde/socket-<hostname>
