KMail hanging

I've found another part of the problem. Until I tried to send this 
information a moment ago to the list, I thought it *was* the problem.

Short description of the problem -- KMail hangs on trying to send after 
running in a VNC session, after shutting down KMail and VNC and then 
restarting KMail in the local console.

I discovered a process that is not shutting down, and I think it's causing 
Akonadi to not shut down either... not sure, but this is at least *part* of 
the problem...

As you can see, either something is (apparently) holding the socket 
launcher or the socket launcher is holding something else. I'm not sure 
where to start to debug this, any ideas welcome, as I'd like to not have to 
manually kill Akonadi and everything KMail-related every time I get home 
and want to send/receive email.
