However, since I updated, this is the first message that came IN
that *wasn't* munged...unless you manually re-edited the area after
"OBTW".

Have you upgraded to the latest KDE upgrade for KMAIL/PIM?   At oS,
it just was made available even though apparantly the problem was addressed
a week or so ago if you got 'vanilla' code direct from KDE..org
