Saving all my emails

Hello all,
		I use kde3 and Kontact.
I would like to keep all my old emails . Those I recieve and those I send.
Can any one tell me how to save selected emails to a disk or file in a way 
that will enable me to load them back to my system or  veiw them when I need 
to.
	In effect I want to save lst years emails inward and outward to an archive 
disk
	perhaps there is a way to backup emails file.
