You misunderstood me. Nowhere did I write that I don't see a need for 
_you_ to do so.

I have fixed hundreds of bugs (and quite a few feature requests) 
reported by people who are not on the development team when I still 
actively worked on KMail.

And, as Pascal reports, it is even possible to do so with a current 
KMail. Maybe you should consider upgrading from the prehistoric KDE 3 to 
KDE 4 before you consider switching to a different mail client. Just a 
suggestion.
