random high CPU use

Every once in a while, KMail goes into some kind of activity that uses a 
lot of CPU for a while, making my whole machine slow down. This is KMail in 
KDE 4.5.3 Fedora 13. I use all maildir folders so there should be no 
compacting. What's going on?
