Long delays when sending messages - 4.6.1 in Fedora

After updating my Fedora to 4.6.1 I started getting very long delays when 
sending a message (also some freezes while composing a message) during which 
time Kontact is completely unresponsive.  This morning I timed such a send, 
using a cached gpg passphrase:

After 4 minutes 27 seconds the message greyed
After 6 minutes 57 seconds it disappeared

Is there a known cause and cure for this?

PS I have had three freezes, approx. 1 minute each, while composing this 
message.
