That directory has been mystifying me for many moons, and I do not
understand it. Perhaps a knowledgable person could sprinkle some of his
insight on the list to clarify it.

For example, my .../kabc contains the following:
drwx------ 2 stan users 4096 Oct 30 11:10 lock
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 30 11:10 std.vcf
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 24 00:47 std.vcf_1
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 25 11:08 std.vcf_2
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 26 09:59 std.vcf_3
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 27 07:10 std.vcf_4
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 28 15:21 std.vcf_5
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 29 01:14 std.vcf_6
-rw-r--r-- 1 stan users 0 Oct 30 11:10 std.vcf_7

What are all these std.vcf and std.vcf_x files for (especially given
that they are all empty)?

The lock directory also puports to be empty, but presumably that may be
deceptive.

Given that I have quite a large addressbook, what is clear is that the
contact information is not in .../kabc, but is either hidden in the lock
directory or is somewhere else entirely. Where, if at all, is it
actually available.
