The only free server (besides Google stuff) I know of working with pc 
and mobile devices is SOGo. They provide plugins for Thunderbird, it 
works with kdepim2, iPhone (out of the box) and android (plugins 
needed, partially not free). But I don't know if this runs on your 
synology NAS.
