kmail/akonadi sending repeated blank mails

Sent an email last night to a yahoo groups mailing list - saw some error about 
being unable to copy the msg to the Sent Mail Box. The usual completely opaque 
and meaningless akonadi error.

This morning it was still sitting in the out box and there were dozens of 
blank emails from me in the mailing list.
