That is a bug, imo, and i actually thought it was fixed long ago! I keep my calendar and adresses in a remote file that might not be available all the time, but it is a long time ago I have experienced problems. In any case, akonadi should behave and not mistake missing access to a file in a remote or unmounted directory for the data having been deleted! Did you search bugs.kde.org for a file?
