seems that hangs but not

Hi, 
Deleting 5000 entries of akregator, kontact seems to hang or hangs
kontact for 2, 3 or more hours, in this time kontact consumes more that
90% of 400% of CPUs. But at the end delete the entries, performance is
simply unacceptable.
I try to see what happen on kontact in this operation, with strace -p
`pidof kontact` and see millions of reads of /etc/localtime, clearly
something is not well.
