Issue with emptying Trash

Kubuntu 12.04 64-bit
KDE 4.8.1
Kontact/Kmail 4.8.0

When I delete email it goes to the Trash folder as normal. However, I can not 
empty the Trash folder by right-clicking on it - the option is grayed out.

I can empty the Trash folder from the File menu (File > Empty All Trash 
Folders). bcooksley (Administrator) over on KDE Community Forums is at a loss 
as to why this is.
