I tried updating my openSUSE 12.1 install from KDE 4.7.2 to KDE 4.9 and ran
into many dependence issues. Reason was I had been running 12.1 with KDE 4.8.4
with no problem but I lost a disk and reinstalled openSUSE 12.1 from DVD..

Today I will try going to KDE 4.8 first then upgrade to 4.9.
