I disabled the "semantic desktop" and things seem OK on boot.  Found the 
missing mail folder, it had been moved under an adjacent folder - must have 
been an accidental drag-n-drop by me. 

I'll try using semantic desktop after the next update, I can't afford to wait 
4-6 hours to access my mail.
