However, in all cases, Akonadi prints something like > this on the console: > > Error during executing query "INSERT INTO PimItemFlagRelation (PimItem_id, > Flag_id) VALUES (:0, :1) RETURNING id" : "ERROR: syntax error at or near > "(" > LINE 1: EXECUTE (121352, 7) > ^ > QPSQL: Unable to create query" > > This seems similar to Bug 323856 > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=323856, although it's hard to say > since that one hasn't been diagnosed. > > The consequences of this are pretty grave, as it makes kmail nearly > useless for me. Any advice on how to proceed? Only problem I had with postgresql backend was messages were not marked as read. For about 3-4 months, I had to live with all messages being unread. And with akonadi 1.10.3, it got fixed. At no point, kmail was unable to send/receive email. Is it feasible for you to upgrade akonadi? I have kmail 4.11.2/akonadi 1.10.3/postgresql 9.3.1 happily working here on archlinux.
