Most of the time you just have to type "dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config" on an 
ubuntu or debian system and answer the questions at the prompts. Google is 
your friend here. If you are using a smarthost (your email provider) to send 
mail you have to deal with /etc/exim4/passwd.client. I never even went to the 
exim site. My approach is to do it and google is I have problems.
