Thanks.

The only difference apart form the unique transport ids is that the old 
"mailtransports" appears to have a password keyword with an encrypted password 
in it whereas the new one does not.
I will save this as draft, close down kmail and then try and send this reply 
and i'll follow up with another email to let you know the result.
