Are you running a Nvidia graphics driver. Apparently there are some issues 
with kmail, akonadi and the Nvidia drivers. New Nvidia driver 331.38 was 
released on Monday and I installed it. All my kmail and akonadi issues have so 
far disappeared. I use kde 4.12.0.
