When you start KMail the next time, the folder should be empty again.

But that only cures the symptom. It might happen again.
You should really file a bug report about this, so the developers know about 
the problem and the underlying issue can be identified and fixed.

I did see the same a few times on one of my (online) IMAP accounts since 4.14 
(but not on the other two), so I might file a bug report myself soon if it 
happens again.
