I can't remember when the change was made, but I saw the patch in a bug report several months ago. I'm currently on 4.14.2. When I either start a new message or reply to an existing one, the composer window is created and my external editor is *immediately* fork()ed. :-( My work flow used to be New Message -> enter recipients -> enter subject -> tab into message area and hit any key. Only then was my editor started. It's irritating that I have to switch back to the composer window after my editor steals focus after starting a new message. OK, replying to a message is more convenient when the editor is immediately started. But NOT for new message. -- Garry T.
