To my knowledge an KF5 Akonadi will not work with KDEPIM 4. It may be possible 
to develop support for the binary protocol into Qt4 based libs, but no one did 
it. And I remember some longer mail or blog post by Daniel or one of the other 
KDEPIM developers explaining on why that is. I think it was a mail in this 
mailing list.

If you want to use KF5 akonadi then also use KDEPIM 5. You can compile that 
from source with kdesrc-build to. And that is what I am using and what is 
working nice enough.
