Another detail that might help someone: until I get local IMAP working I'm using direct POP3 delivery from my ISP, but carefully. I don't use automatic mail fetching, only manual; and if I have any problems with, say, duplicates, I sort those out before fetching any more mails. That seems (so far) to avoid the mess I used to get with POP3 delivery. (And I was very rude about it at the time - belated apologies to anyone I upset in my frustration.) -- Regards, Peter.
