Any chance that a conversion of the current database to postgres (into the one created following the earlier link) would prevent loss of settings metadata AND speed up the process (no initial import of all your email)?

If akonadi uses backends for the various database implementations it supports it probably uses the same organisation of tables and what-have-you in all of the supported database types?
