You could use the following alternative method to copy or move messages. Type 
'm' (to move) or 'c' (to copy) the selected messages. Then a window is shown 
where you can select the target folder. By typing a few characters of the 
folder name you can reduce the number of target folders shown by the window.

Alternatively, it seems to help to force KMail to use X11 as described in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485661#c17
