This probably has nothing to do with the kpersonalizer problem.  All it does 
is set kdm to start in nodaemon mode when the system enters init level 5.
You need to set kdm to nodaemon mode because init will "respawn" kdm as soon 
as it sees it die (you log out usually).  KDM in daemon mode will "respawn" 
itself - and it gets messy :)

If you want to take advantage of this line:
1) make sure that /opt/kde3/bin/kdm is the path to your kdm - preferably 
without symlinks, but it really doesn't matter.
2) make sure that your inittab goes into runlevel 5 by default
- make sure the line:
id:5:initdefault:
is somewhere in your inittab

Just for historical purposes, runlevel 4 is the "traditional" X runlevel.

Other runlevels for those who don't know:
0,6 halt/reboot  - same thing
1 single user 
2-5 multiuser
4 X
