You actually don't need to reinstall KDE itself (actually it doesn't help at 
all). You only need to rename the directories $HOME/.kde and $HOME/.kde3 to 
another name and login again. 
These directories contain your personal KDE configuration and if you can copy 
single files to your new config directories. If you didn't configure much 
yet, it's probably easier to remove those and start from scratch.
