Initial Comment:
Centipede uses JJar to download the required cents. If
you need to connect via a proxy host you can use the
java http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort system
properties to enable connection. However, if the proxy
requires authentication this will give an
authentication failure error (407).

I have examined the docs for JJar but can find no way
of connecting via an authenticating proxy. I have
posted a message to the jakarta-commons mailing list
and will post a summary of responses here.

In the meantime my suggested workaround is to download
the necessary cent files directly from the repository
at http://krysalis.org/jjar. Looking at
http://krysalis.org/jjar/repository.xml gives a
description of all the cent.jar files in the
repository. You will be able to download them by
pointing a browser at each file, for example
http://krysalis.org/jjar/checkstyle.cent.jar and saving
the result in [centiped_home]/tools/cents/ 

If you know a better solution please post it here and
I'll add it
to the docs. One suggestion would be have the HTML file
at http://krysalis.org/jjar/ generated from the
repository descriptor and provde a link to each cent
from that page, thus allowing people to download them
diretly until we find a way of getting JJar to connect
from behind an authenticating proxy.

I don't see this as a documentation problem. One of the
"selling" features of Centipede is the ease with which it
can be used. That is, flag which modules you want to be used
in the build process and Centipede does the rest. We have
already lost one potential user because of this problem.

At the very least we need to provide an easy way of
downloading the needed cents manually (even if it is only a
page listing all the available cents, although a separate
tar with all cents would make sense.

Of course it would be preferable if everything worked
through an asuthenticating proxy. I did have a dialog with
the maintainer of JJar who said he was going to fix this,
however, I don't think he has yet (not looked recently).
