try something like this:

DataAxisProperties yAxis = (DataAxisProperties) axisProperties.getYAxisProperties();
yAxis.setNumItems( 10 );
yAxis.setRoundToNearest( -3 );

UserDefinedScaleCalculator u= new UserDefinedScaleCalculator( 4.00, .15 );
yAxis.setScaleCalculator( u );



There is no user defined functionality to control which labels are shown on the x-axis.  You could
do it manually in your data and use empty Strings for all the values except the ones you want to
display.
