Something must have happened somewhere if it used to work and now it
doesn't!
If its not aubit4gl or the VDC - did you update the operating system ?
If you set :

     export DEBUG=ALL

is anything useful reported ?

Normally this error means the 4gl programs cant connect to the machine
running the VDC.
How are you running your programs ?
Are you using the proxy/ssh ?
Or are you starting the VDC after setting AFGLSERVER directly ?

Is the VDC running on the same machine ?
