2a) I do the following when I want to email a screen form (or part of the form), but it may be more than most customers are willing to do:
Get an image capturing program on the PC and use a hotkey, like <Ctrl-Shift-R> to call up its "capture region" feature. I found an image capturing program on my PC called HyperSnap-DX, that I leave running but there are plenty of other similar programs out there too You can set the defaults on most capture programs to save images in jpeg format, which cuts down the file size of the image enormously. They could attach the saved jpegs of the captured regions to their e-mail. Not as easy as Right mouse button - drag - <Ctrl-C>, <Ctrl-V>, but it's better than sending a huge bitmap of the entire window.

2b) You can copy text from the GUI screen, if you right-click-drag in a field, and then <Ctrl-Ins>. That will capture the data as text.

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

1) they don't use ASCII mode anymore since a couple of weeks, the graphical mode is a step forwards. But in "old" ASCII mode they could select a part of the forms and paste it in their text.

2) Their problem with this solution is the size of the e-mail. The e-mail gets bigger than 2 MB. Nor is it possible to past a part of the form (ie name and address) in a text.

Is it possible to overcome this problems, or is it just not possible?

Best regards,

Nanno;

1. 4J's can still run in ASCII mode if that's what your customer wants. Seems like a step backwards.

2. You *can* copy the screen from Windows Front End and paste into an email, as long as your email client is capable of handling a graphic. You would need to set the email program to use HTML for the format of the message, but it works fine. Looks better. We use it all the time.

Subject: [fourjs-users] Copy only data from screen

Hi List,

One of our customers is used to copy the screen from ascii 4GL into e-mail.

Now they use 4JS and cannot copy the screen into an e-mail. Because the clipped info is an image and not plain text.

Someone knows how to copy only the data from a 4JS screen?

We'te thinking to build something with fglpager and let the customers copy from there. But I think there must be a beter solution.

Best regards,
