Thanks for the response.  I only have this problem when using Microsoft
Word.  My Excel code works perfectly.

I work with the ddepeek and have no problems with the syntax se below. 


LET lo_mappe = "mappe1" 
LET lo_zelle = "Z18S2" 
CALL DDEpeek("EXCEL", lo_mappe, lo_zelle clipped) RETURNING
lo_zellenwert 

Do you have a dde-connection with mappe1 ? 
CALL DDEConnect( "EXCEL", mo_mappe) RETURNING lo_ddereturn
