We have seen this type of thing where a firewall that blocks connections at
the socket level is situated on the network somewhere between the server and
the client. We saw this happen when a particular part of the system invoked
another program and remained in a "suspended" mode pending return of the
called program.  If the timeout on the firewall was reached before the user
backed out of the called program, he would get a frozen screen on the PC
with the 4gl program still running on the server end.  The only remedy we
could find was to remove this type of firewall from the network setup or
change the way programs are called (ie. run without waiting).
