Hi Frank I used in windowsxp the mingw32(suport native windows 
(ALELUIA!:-)) e in mingw32 projetc exists the package mysysDTK e mysys 
that add 'unix' tools 'make' '....etc:-)'
Eye my message in this forum "I only got to compile with 
gcc3.3.1(......)" especially in end of this message my 'software 
configuration (using newer version is good too).
HINT:  after you have success in the './configue', make and 'make 
install", use if you desired the 'contrib dir' of the adasockets and 
make an   install package 'easy for windows'( you no necessity more the 
'unix tools' for used, only you need a Ada compiler. remember of use the 
"ada" gcc of mingw too:D
