A clarification:
That "bench.c" program I posted ran in the same elapsed time when
compiled with C and C++ on the same system.
The "CPU benchmark" program was intended to compare relative performance
of various CPUs -- it does no I/O, -- it just runs a "loop" many times,
to compare how fast different CPUs can run the same sequence of many
instructions -- e.g., to compare Power5 to Power6 or Power7.
For example:
on a Power5 model 520 feature code 7450, it ran in 10 seconds of
elapsed time.
on a Power7 model 720 feature code 8350, it ran in 1 second of
elapsed time.
